Expansion News: Trail blazers and Ground Breakers!

We've got exciting news: we've expanded the SaddlehorseBlues store to include RDAs! And not just any RDAs, our new collection features Twisted Messes, Squidoode, 528 Customs, and M.Terk. Build decks by some of the original and most respected builders in the industry.

Like a lot of people, when I first started building it was just coils for my Kayfun. I needed coils that wouldn't burn out and need replacing right away. Simple stuff. But it wasn't very long after that I became interested in building more substantial coils, starting with Claptons, moving on to Fused Claptons. They were pretty basic but took a bit of skill and I honestly just enjoyed the process. The fact that they improved my vaping experience was a total bonus.

I'll be the first to admit that this isn't the first hobby turned obsession for me. I've always been technically-minded, I enjoy building things, and understanding how and why things work, and I have a particular fascination with electricity. Coil building is right up my alley.

And I was lucky, because when I started out people like Kent (Twisted Messes) and Shawn (aka blueeyedgoon83, 528 Customs) were already conceiving of and creating beautiful and functional coils. Kent and Ryan (Squidoode) contributed immeasurably to the build community with their instructional videos, and then later on Mike (M.Terk) came on the scene with some really helpful videos breaking down Alien builds. They helped to lay the groundwork for what was to become a massive worldwide community.

I personally took a lot from them: design, technique, how to hold my tools and wire so that my body wasn't wrecked by the end of a build session, which could go for hours...

I've been building for years now. Since those early days, I've tweaked and developed my own techniques and methods for getting that perfect coil down. I've tried any number of coil builds and I have a pretty good sense for how to get going without necessarily needing an instructional video to produce a build I'm interested in. I've built I don't even know how many thousands of coils.

What began as a hobby that facilitated my own vaping has developed into a full-fledged business that I operate with my wife and partner, Brandee. Sometimes I still can't even believe how many stores my coils are in. Or when someone from another country contacts me out of the blue because they've seen my coils... It's crazy. I'm blown away and still massively humbled by the experience.

And like a lot of coil builders, I feel that I owe a debt of gratitude to the guys who broke ground and taught so many of us how to get started. There are now master coil builders all over the world, a lot with serious businesses who are doing this full-time. There are new people coming on all the time. And we started somewhere, there's a history to this.

So it felt right that if we were going to expand the store to carry RDAs, we should start with paying our respect to the trail blazers. Give back to the people who got us started. It just makes sense. And the decks are great for builders- I personally own and love all of these RDAs.

I hope that you enjoy the collection as much as we both do.
