Staggered Framed Staples

Hi guys, I’m back with this week’s segment of Whatcha Vaping? Bit of a break between segments as we focused strictly on advocacy last week in solidarity with our U.S. vape family who were just hit with some horrendously harsh legislation. I do hope you get a chance to check out some of the posts from last week. Lots of ways for all of us to get involved in the fight to keep vaping available to us all, but time is of the essence.

So, back to this week’s segment. I’m doing something entirely different and reviewing one of our coils for you. Shane made me up a set of Staggered Framed Staples at the beginning of the month and I’ve been test-driving one for the last few weeks. Thus far, I am loving it. Seriously loving it.

A bit on the specs: The frames are 26g nichrome, the stagger are 36g nichrome, the staples are 0.5mm kanthal, and the wrap is 38g nichrome. There are five wraps on a 3mm coil and it’s coming in at 0.18 Ohms. (Whenever Shane breaks down the specs on a coil for me I think, “Good lord, this is why I let someone else build them for me.” That and the constant toiling over a drill.)

These are a fabulously sturdy coil, which I really like. I am rough with my things, so I’m partial to rugged. I have rewicked this I think five times now and given it a cleaning and no hot spots or readjustments necessary. With a little basic maintenance this coil should last me a very long time. I’ve never tested one of our coils past the two month mark as there’s generally something else I want to try but I spoke with a guy this week who’s been running the same set of our Staggered Clapton coils for over three months now. If I don’t get distracted by something else shiny and new (I am a little crow-like that way) I will try to put this one through the paces for as long as I can and report back.

Onto performance: put simply, it’s everything that I look for in a coil. I’m running a single coil, as I usually do, and I’m getting a seriously dense vapour even at the low settings I prefer. I’ve tried a variety of (Max VG) juices with it and I’m finding about 45 Watts is the sweet spot for flavour and vapour density. The flavour: good grief! I am getting some crazy flavour off this coil, no matter the juice I choose. Similar to an Alien, if I had to make a comparison. This coil holds a lot of juice. And the ramp up time on this baby is really fast: I’m getting what I want right away, which you know I love.

As mentioned, I have been testing this coil out while Shane also runs a set on his device so these are not yet available on our website. I expect given the great results both of us have been having (and my constant raving about it) that we will soon offer them publicly and as soon as we do, I will let you know. In the meantime, let me know what your favourite coils are. Are you a fan of the single coil set-up like I am?

And check out my new YouTube video about the coil. While you’re there, hit me up in the comments about what you’re vaping right now and subscribe if you’re so inclined.

Until next week, guys! Catch you in the Twitterverse!

"And whatever the FDA does from here, combustible cigarettes will be left unscathed and widely accessible. And vapers are implicitly being encouraged to return to smoking." (Michael McGrady)
